4.1 Relay & Pairing Tap IP
Relay lets you quickly and easily set up and configure a Rally Bar, Rally Bar Mini, Rally Bar Huddle or RoomMate from a Tap IP. Using Bluetooth LE and IP-based protocols, Relay offers a flexible and resilient connection path for various device configuration needs
To use this feature, you will need the following:
Rally Bar, Rally Bar Mini, Rally Bar Huddle or RoomMate running CollabOS 1.7 or higher
Tap IP running CollabOS 1.7 or higher
A display connected to Rally Bar, Rally Bar Mini, Rally Bar Huddle or RoomMate
For Microsoft Teams and Zoom Room users, both devices must have the same subnet IP address.
Notes:
If you're setting up a new Rally Bar, Rally Bar Mini or Rally Bar Huddle with an already configured Tap IP, you must first factory reset the Tap IP and set up the devices together.
Use the instructions in 1.3 Local Network Access to add system certificates to your connected devices. Each device will have its own Local Network Access portal. The certificates need to be added separately to each device — the devices do not share certificates via Relay.
BYOD mode is not available when using Relay.
If there is a mismatch between the major release versions of CollabOS (Tap IP 1.7 vs Rally Bar 1.8), it is expected to see “Version mismatch” notification on Tap IP screen whilst in the CollabOS settings. This will not break the functionality of the Tap IP + Rally Bar/Mini/Huddle and/or RoomMate. Our recommendation is to always update your Tap IP + Rally Bar/Mini/Huddle and/or RoomMate to latest CollabOS version, so major release versions across both paired devices will be on the same version.
This notification may also show up if there is a mismatch in schema between the major versions (grid view available on Rally Bar but not on Tap IP, for example).
Setup
When onboarding multiple Tap IPs, you will first need to onboard the front-of-room device with one Tap IP. Once the front-of-room device is onboarded, you can connect more Tap IPs.
Note: The device settings will not automatically sync after your device is set up. You will need to configure each device individually by going to “Device settings,” select the device, then adjust the settings.
Turn on both devices.
Connect the front-of-room device to a display.
Set up regional settings.
After setting up Relay, these settings will be shared with the front-of-room device.
Note: Relay is not supported in Local Network Access. If you are using Local Network Access to set up these devices, each device needs to be individually onboarded.
Connect your device to the network.
All network configurations set on Tap IP will now be shared with the front-of-room device, including Wi-Fi credentials, NTP, and proxy details.
TCP/IP and certificates are not shared between devices. These settings need to be configured individually.
If the front-of-room device fails to use the network configurations set on Tap IP, you will be asked to configure the network for the front-of-room device after pairing.
On the “Let's set up Relay” screen, tap Set up now.
Note: For Microsoft Teams users, Relay will use IP-based communication after you sign into Microsoft Teams on both your Tap IP and front-of-room device.
Retrieve the device name and 4-character code from Rally Bar, Rally Bar Mini or Rally Bar Huddle.
Press and hold the Bluetooth® button on the back of the device for 5 seconds.
On the display, identify the device name and the unique 4-character code.
Confirm device pairing on Tap IP by selecting the device with the matching name and unique 4-character code.
If you do not see the device you want to pair, tap Search again.
Tap Connect to confirm device pairing.
Relay will pair the devices and transfer the settings.
You can now continue setting up the devices together. Once CollabOS setup is complete, you may be required to log into your service provider accounts on each device.
When you activate Relay on your front-of-room device, the device name will be shown on the connected display. Look for the same name on your device found list on Tap IP.
On the “Confirm Installation” screen, all device info will be available for paired devices, including IP address and MAC address.
Additional Network Configuration
If you're having trouble connecting to a network during device setup, it's likely because your network requires additional configuration.
Tap IP interface will show an error message, “[Device Name] couldn't connect to network.”
Tap Configure network.
On the network configuration interface for the front-of-room device, you can configure device-specific network settings.
Pair Tap IP
When pairing Tap IP with a configured front-of-room device via Relay, make sure the devices are close to each other. We recommend 30 feet (10 meters) or less.
Notes:
Check to see if the Pairing screen is shown on your connected display when you press and hold the Bluetooth® button on the back of the device for 5 seconds.
You can check if the front-of-room device's Bluetooth is turned ON by navigating to Device settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth and making sure the toggle is turned on.
If you’re having trouble pairing and your front-of-room device is signed into Microsoft Teams, sign-out and try again.
Try factory resetting both devices and follow the steps above to set them up and then enable pairing.
Enable device pairing on Tap IP.
On the Settings screen on Tap IP, tap "System," then tap "Pair New Device.
Retrieve the device name and 4-character code from Rally Bar, Rally Bar Mini, Rally Bar Huddle or RoomMate.
Press and hold the Bluetooth® button on the back of the device for 5 seconds.
On the display, identify the device name and unique 4-character code.
On Tap IP, confirm device pairing by selecting the device with the matching name and unique 4-character code.
If you do not see the device you want to pair, tap "Search again" and follow the instructions above again.
Tap Connect to confirm device pairing.
On the Settings screen, you will now see tabs for Tap IP and Rally.
Unpair Tap IP
Open device settings on Tap IP
Tap the “ ⋯” icon.
Tap Forget device.
Note: Unpair Tap IP on Microsoft Teams Rooms by navigating to Teams Admin Settings > Console pairing and select unpair.
