Using Smart Actions in Options+

Smart Actions in the Logi Options+ App gives you the power to skip repetitive actions by automating multiple tasks with a single keystroke so you can streamline your workflow

Note: You will have to be logged in to your Options+ account to use Smart Actions.

Smart Actions Window Explained 

The Smart Actions window allows you to download, manage or create your own sequence of actions which are combined into one Smart Action.  The Smart Actions are listed as a series of cards which showcases the details of that action.

SEARCH

Type into the search window to find an action within the templates or your own actions in the manage tab 

SORT

Sort your actions by most recent or alphabetical.

⤓ IMPORT

Import Smart Actions that are on your computer.  Smart Actions can be exported for easy copying across computers

+CREATE

Click + CREATE to start creating a new Smart Action, configuring triggers, labels and a name for the Smart Action

TEMPLATES

A list of pre-built Smart Actions available for you to start using immediately.  Click GET on any Smart Action card to install.

MANAGE

This tab lists all the current Smart Actions available to use.  Only active Smart Actions will run when triggered.  You can also edit any Smart Action from here by clicking their card

Downloading Templates

  1. GET: If a template is something you would like to use.  Click GET to install. 

  2. Smart Action breakdown: is shown next:

    1. If… - this is a trigger, typically a button/key or key combo which, when pressed will run the Smart Action.  You will need to define your trigger for the Smart Action to work.

      1. Currently there are 2 trigger options: Device and Shortcut.

    2. Then… - this is the sequence of actions that are going to happen.  You can edit these now or leave them as they are.  You can also add additional actions at the bottom then drag those to where you want them to happen in the sequence.

    3. TRY IT: You can trigger the Smart Action to see how it will work.

    4. SAVE: Click SAVE to install the Smart Action.

      Note: Clicking the back arrow will take you back to the templates window but you will be given the option to save that action.

Creating a Smart Action

Click + CREATE to start a new blank Smart Action

Smart Action breakdown: is shown next:

  1. If… - this is a trigger, typically a button/key or key combo which, when pressed will run the Smart Action.  You will need to define your trigger for the Smart Action to work.

    1. Currently there are 2 trigger options: Device and Shortcut.

  2. If you select Device, you will be shown a list of devices currently installed with Options+. 

  3. If you select Shortcut you will be prompted to use up to 3 modifier keys and one other key to create a shortcut combo.  Click CONFIRM when ready.

  1. Then… - this is the sequence of actions that are going to happen.  Click Add action and you will see a list of options:

    1. Application:  Allows you to open/close/bring to foreground your installed apps.

      1. Choose your application

      2. then choose what you want to happen with it.

      3. Note: You can add an application if you don't see it on the list.  You will need to navigate to the main executable file for the application and select the file path.

    2. Keystroke: Allows you to play back shortcuts or any sequences of key presses and releases.  Press START RECORDING then press your keys/buttons.  Click STOP RECORDING to finish.  

      1. Record with fixed delay:  By default this will be on and you can click the time to adjust the delay between each key/button press.

      2. Turn Record with fixed delay off to record the exact delay times between keystrokes/button presses.  You can then edit each time delay.

    3. Text:  Allows you to paste text.  It can be a URL , directory path, piece of code, command, message, or email template.

      1. Enter the text in the box and click CONFIRM when ready.

    4. System: Allows you to take System Actions like shut down , open file, copy, delete and many more.

      1. Either search or scroll through the available options and select a system action and CONFIRM when ready.

    5. Delay: Allows you to create delays between the actions that you have added.  Useful when you need to wait for the preceding action to complete before executing the subsequent action.

      1. Set the delay (in seconds) and CONFIRM when ready.

      2. Order of actions note: To move an action up or down the sequence, click and drag anywhere in the action up or down the list to where it needs to be.

    6. TRY IT: You can trigger the Smart Action to see how it will work.

    7. SAVE: Click SAVE to install the Smart Action.

Manage Smart Actions

Saved Smart Actions will be shown in the MANAGE tab.  To edit or change any of the events you can click on the card.

Smart Action Card Explained:

Icon explanation starting from the top left.  You can see the details by hovering over the icon as shown above.

  • Trigger: in this case the trigger is a key on a keyboard

  • After the trigger, you will see the sequence of events.  In this example Chrome has an event (minimized), followed by opening Spotify, followed by a Space keystroke which will activate Play within Spotify.

  • The +1 shows there are more actions in the sequence.  To see those you will need to click on the card which shows a more detailed view:

We can see there is also a 5 sec delay added in the sequence to allow for Spotify to open before performing a Spacebar key press.

  • Currently, this action has one tag: Productivity.  To add another tag, click on the + button in the bottom left corner, this will help with searching for your Smart Actions.

Import and Export

In the MANAGE tab, you can see all your cards and if you want to export and import to another machine there is an easy way to do this.

  1. Click on the 3 lines and select Export from the list

  2. Select the location to export and save the Smart Action to. This will be saved as a .json file and can be opened with most text editors if needed.

  3. Copy the file and save on the machine you want to use and note the location

  4. Click IMPORT and navigate to where the Smart Action was saved. 

  5. You can now TRY IT or just SAVE

    1. Note: if you import an identical Smart Action it will just duplicate what you already have.
