1.7 Update Policy

This article covers the topic of CollabOS Update Policy designed to help ensure that CollabOS devices receive the latest features, as well as any privacy and security enhancements we make to the platform. CollabOS updates are always free, and you can choose when to deploy them.

Types of Updates

Major: 

• Major updates typically include new features and improvements as well as service provider app updates.

• We strive to release major updates every few months.

• Increment of the second digit in a release number defines a major update.

• Examples of major updates include CollabOS 1.6 (listed as 1.6.272) and CollabOS 1.7 (listed as 1.7.289).

Minor: 

• Minor updates typically include quality improvements and service provider app updates.

• We strive to release minor updates more frequently, usually once a month between major updates.

• Increment of the third set of digits in a release number defines a minor update.

• Some minor releases for CollabOS include 1.6.425, 1.6.552, 1.6.568, and 1.7.300.

Update Verification Process

CollabOS updates are verified until the last update of the N-2 (second-to-last) release, where N is the current major version.We recommend that you keep your CollabOS devices updated to the most recent release and adhere to our Update Verification Process using any of the following methods. 

For example, we verify CollabOS updates to the current update (Ex: 1.7.552) from 

1. All updates of N (current major version) release.

• Ex: 1.7.289 and 1.7.300

1. All updates of N-1 (previous) release, and

• Ex: 1.6.272, 1.6.425, 1.6.552 and 1.6.568

1. Last update of the N-2 (second-to-last) release.

• Ex: 1.5.709

How long will the current CollabOS version be supported?

As new CollabOS versions are released, we recommend you keep your devices updated to be within the verified update window available for the device.

Is it possible to downgrade to an older CollabOS version?

• CollabOS devices have an anti-rollback feature that prevents from being reverted to an earlier, and possibly less secure, set of software.

Can I update my CollabOS device to the latest version from versions outside the Update Verification process?

While we recommend you always update your devices to adhere to our CollabOS Update Policy, you can also update devices to the latest version from versions outside of the process.

Note: In rare cases, a factory reset may be required to complete the update process.
