Android 12 - Extending the Life of Logitech Devices
At Logitech, being a market leader isnât just about delivering innovative productsâitâs also about prioritizing sustainability to minimize our impact on the environment.
Last year, we proudly announced the use of Next Life Plastic materials across our CollabOS video conferencing portfolio. With Next Life Plastic, we include certified post-consumer recycled plastic to give a next life to plastic from old consumer electronics and help reduce our carbon footprint. Since the announcement, weâve expanded the use of Next Life Plastics, and now 75% of Logitech devices shipped are made with post-consumer recycled materials.
Alongside this, weâve rolled out hundreds of new software features and improvements in recent years. These updates can help to extend the lifespan of our Logitech for Business portfolio through enhanced functionality and introduce features that can reduce environmental impact, like low-power modes and improved CEC support to cut power usage in meeting rooms.
This year, weâre taking another major leap forward with a significant announcement: all CollabOS devices in the Logitech for Business portfolio will be upgraded to Android 12.
How Upgrading to Android 12 Supports Sustainability
For video conferencing devices still running Android 10, support for security patches and compatibility updates is nearing its end. In this article, Microsoft has published end-of-life dates for Microsoft Teams on Android certification and support. Zoomâs end-of-life policy is available here.
By upgrading all Logitech Android-based devices to Android 12, weâre extending their lifecycle. This update adds two extra years of security patches and compatibility support from partners like Microsoft, helping customers keep devices in use longer and reducing the potential waste of replacing existing hardware systems.
Weâll also continue to improve our devices across the portfolio. The upgrade to Android 12 offers more security and supportability, creating a strong foundation for our next set of features and enhancements.Â
