MacOS Dual External Monitor Deployment Requirements
In some cases, Apple MacBook users may run into troubles running dual external displays, such as the inability to extend your display when using a Logi Dock or Logi Dock Flex. This article aims to cover the requirements to properly support their deployment. This article applies to:
Apple Silicon MacBooks (M1+) connected to a Logi Dock or Logi Dock Flex.
Native Display Support by Chip Type
Apple MacBooks running Apple Silicon chipsets have display output hardware limitations. Please ensure your specific model of MacBook allows for multiple external displays.
You can find additional monitor support information for Macs from Appleâs documentation here.
Solutions
In the event your Macbook falls into the category of having single external display support, you can enable dual extended monitors using the following:
DisplayLink-Compatible USB-C Adapter
Use a USB-C to HDMI or DisplayPort adapter with DisplayLink technology. Do not rely on generic USB-C video adaptersâonly DisplayLink-certified options will work.
DisplayLink Manager Software
Download the DisplayLink Manager software here: https://www.synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics/downloads/macos
Note: This software must be installed on the Mac itself.
Go through the installation process. This will require screen recording permissions.
Once finished, reboot your computer.
Note: Hardware or software alone is not sufficientâboth are required.
