Recommended configurations
When using Sight as a Mic Pod, the pickup range is a roughly 7.5 ft or 2.3 m radius. Rally Bar and Rally Bar Mini both have the option of operating in Speaker Boost Mode where the maximum volume of the speakers is increased and the internal microphones are disabled. Below are general recommendations for microphone configurations both with Speaker Boost enabled and disabled.
In general, Smart Switching is recommended to ensure all participants can be viewed as expected, especially when using a long table. For more information on Smart Switching, please see here.
With so many factors affecting microphone performance, such as surface treatments or HVAC function in the conference room, the information below serves as a guideline and your results may vary. We recommend some experimentation to achieve the best results.
Note: The below examples are shown on a table that is 14 ft or 4.3 m long.
Speaker Boost Mode Disabled
With Speaker Boost Mode disabled, the microphones in Rally Bar or Rally Bar Mini are activated.
In the setup shown below, with Sight near the center of the table, voices will be picked up by both Sight and Rally Bar or Rally Bar Mini. When those seated near the display pivot towards the display and speak, the microphones of the Rally Bar or Rally Bar Mini will pick up their voices.
In the scenario shown below, the person seated at the head of the table will have better voice pickup by adding a Rally Mic Pod near the head of the table.
The scenario shown below with a Rally Mic Pod near the display is not recommended.
The scenario shown below with a Rally Mic Pod near the display is not recommended.
Note: Smart Switching is recommended to ensure all participants can be viewed as expected. For more information on Smart Switching, please see here.
Speaker Boost Mode Enabled
With Speaker Boost Mode enabled, the microphones in the Rally Bar or Rally Bar Mini are deactivated. Instructions for enabling Speaker Boost Mode can be found here.
With Sight near the center of the table, as shown below, voices around the table will be picked up by the microphones in Sight. However, when the people seated nearest the display turn and speak towards the display, some voice intelligibility may be lost.
In the setup below, with a Rally Mic Pod positioned towards the display and Sight near the center of the table, the voices of those seated near the display will be picked up well by the Rally Mic Pod when they talk towards the display.
The setup shown below, with a Rally Mic Pod near the head of the table, is not recommended.
The setup below, with two Rally Mic Pods, achieves the best audio quality regardless of which direction people speak, as all people are seated near a Mic Pod. This setup also provides all seating positions the additional benefit of easy access to the microphone mute button.
In this example shown with a 6m/20’ table, Sight is oriented nearer the head of the table and a Rally Mic Pod is added nearer the Rally Bar.
Note: Smart Switching is recommended to ensure all participants can be viewed as expected. For more information on Smart Switching, please see here.
Rally Mic Pod extension cable
In some instances, it may be necessary to use the Rally Mic Pod extension cable when installing Rally Mic Pods. Use the following guidelines when designing the system:
Rally Bar and Rally Bar Mini: Up to 2 Rally Mic Pod Extension Cables can be used, and they can be installed in any sequence in the chain after Sight.
